2x + y = 40 and x < = y. So, x can take at the maximum be equal to y. when x = y, 2x + y = 2x + x = 40. or x = 13.33. x and y are both positive integers. Hence, the maximum value that x can take is 13. And the minimum value that y can take is 14. There are 13 solutions to the equation. |
